A large majority of people in Australia have acne, making it the most common skin disease. Although acne is not a serious health treat, severe acne can lead to disfigurement and permanent scaring.

Acne is a disorder due to many factors which result of the skin’s oil glands (sebaceous glands), which leads to plugged pores and outbreaks of lesions commonly called pimples or zits.

The exact cause of acne is unknown; but doctors believe it results from several related factors. Some of the factors are:

1) An increase of hormones called androgens (male sex hormones):

These increase in both boys and girls during puberty and cause sebaceous glands to enlarge and make more sebum. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy, stress, starting or stopping birth control pills

2) Heredity or genetics.

Researchers believe that the tendency to develop acne can be inherited from parents. For example, studies have been shown that many school-age boys with acne have a family history.

3) Certain Drugs.

Including androgens and lithium, are known to cause acne.

4) Greasy cosmetics.

May alter the cells of the follicles and make them sick together, producing a plug.

Acne can include pustules, blackheads, milia and congestion, this is where the follicles have become blocked due to a build up of dead skin cells and the skin requires a deep cleaning and exfoliation. (In the blocked follicle the bacteria’s are multiplying. “They can’t stand oxygen”) our goal is to reduce blockages in order to prevent possible pustule formation. (To get the skin bread)  At Clairderm Cosmetic clinic we offer a facial that is deep cleansing to remove blockages and that will help prevent and control future break-outs.
